BlackBerry Playbook update delayed for the fourth time, and won’t include BBM
In yet another act of self-flagellation, Research in Motion has delayed the Playbook’s new operating system until February and won’t include BlackBerry Messaging until a future update. “As much as we’d love to have it in your hands today, we’ve made the difficult decision to wait,” said David Smith, Playbook senior vice-president, on the company blog. The software upgrade will add a new video store, better tablet/smartphone communication and—most importantly—long awaited features like native email, contacts and calendar support. This is the fourth time those simple functions have been delayed: RIM promised to release them two months after launch, then pushed back to later in the summer, then to October. Now it won’t be released until next year, assuming the company isn’t crushed by then by that frivolous lawsuit (we have our doubts). Better to get it done right then to release flawed software. This is not hacker stuff like linux. If people want the new OS so much, they can always try to get the developer preview of it. This is the same process any company follows, including their much loved competitors.
All this RIM hate is media driven.
If RIM makes one simple mistake the media is all over it. If Apple has issues, they go by unheard. The media is heavily biased against RIM. The strategy is to get OS2.0 right and release it instead of releasing it and facing further media scrutiny. This is a great strategy. I am anxiously awaiting the media when BBX is launched. What will the apple fanboys write about then?

Don’t know which Playbook you own, but the rest of us don’t have BBM on ours.

David J. Smith even stated: “First off, we have decided to defer the inclusion of the BBM™ application to a subsequent BlackBerry PlayBook OS release.”
I wonder what kind of Playbook commenter Chris uses?
The headline makes it sound like the Playbook doesn’t have BBM at all…when it does.
