Party Pages: Toronto’s high society attends a Flo Rida concert

Last night at the Liberty Grand, Flo Rida and Mia Martina performed at a truly bumping party for the Bay Street Grand Prix, a charity event supporting Sunnybrook Hospital’s Women and Babies program, which offers assistance to mothers who give birth prematurely. A dinner and auction kicked off the evening, but the real party was outside on the expansive patio. Before the performances, in what we dubbed “socialite corner,” we saw Jenna Bitove and Suzanne Rogers having girl talk oh-so-briefly before the sight of a camera sent Rogers darting for the door (she seems a little camera shy these days, but we can report that her bouffant was in truly fine form—not a hair out of place). Bitove, a standout in a Christopher Kane dress, took her cue as society up-and-comer and mugged for cameras. She was also spotted making the rounds, chatting up former college basketball player and Bay Street dude Ashanti Burke for an extensive period. She even regrouped with Rogers and her girlfriends for a bit of cellphone photography and dancing in the main room (yes, even Mrs. Rogers bobbed her poof to the musical stylings of Mr. Rida).

It was one of the wildest society to-dos we’ve ever been to. Most Flo Rida songs were a hit, but the one that got everyone on their feet was “Get Low.” Moneyed men and women—in suits and ball gowns—got down to lyrics that included “She’s got Apple Bottom jeans, boots with the fur” and “Shorty get low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low.” One party mama got up onstage with her daughter to dance alongside the rapper (the daughter declined the offer to move up close to the performer, but her mom kept on rocking out). As the party began to wind down, we caught former Olympic figure skater Elvis Stojko outside with his wife, Mexican figure skater Gladys—once the light from the red carpet hit Stojko’s beautiful Mrs., a loud-mouthed man yelled, “Look at you with Pocahontas!” Not one to get into a scuffle after a great night, Stojko replied, “She’s actually Mulan and Jasmine rolled up into one.” Figure skater and Disney fan? Stojko is our kind of gentleman.
