Battle of the big-screen porn stars: Toronto’s Malin Akerman on replacing Lindsay Lohan

Late last year, we found out that North Toronto C.I.’s own Malin Akerman would be starring as Linda Lovelace in Inferno, a big-screen, big-budget adaptation of the porn star’s life. The announcement (a big career boost for Akerman, who has thus far played mostly best friends and/or babe sister roles) came hot on the three-inch heels of word that the movie’s original star, Lindsay Lohan, had been dropped from the project because her wild child ways have made her all but uninsurable. (Or definitively uninsurable, depending on whom you believe.)

Lohan, who has now been a famous hot mess for longer than she was ever a famous actress, had hoped to return to her post–Mean Girls glory with the Lovelace biopic (Oscar does love its women of ill repute). So how does Inferno’s new leading lady feel about cashing in on LiLo’s misfortune? “Awkward,” is how Akerman described the situation to reporters at a fundraiser in L.A. Still, she says she can’t wait to start filming in March. The nudity is still being negotiated, but it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a whole new side of the Couple’s Retreat star—good news, given we’d rather gouge out our own eyes than sit through Couple’s Retreat again.

Lohan has yet to offer any public comment regarding her replacement, but the girl’s got a black belt in frivolous feuding, so Akerman may want to sleep with one eye open.
