“Legal problems” may delay Conrad Black’s memoir of his legal problems
Posted on May 20, 2008 by Douglas Bell
There are rumours floating around concerning delays in the publishing date for Conrad Black’s much-ballyhooed trial memoir The Fight of My Life. Until as recently as last week, his Lordship’s publisher, McClelland & Stewart president Douglas Pepper, was saying the doorstopper would be out this October. However, a source close to Black reports that “legal problems” could push it out a year to fall 2009. Black’s busy litigation schedule may have something to do with it.
Pepper confirms the delay but insists it has only to do with logistics, and that with luck it will hit the shelves by next May. “The schedule was too tight for our liking and, for the betterment of the book and as we are dealing with an author in extraordinary circumstances, we made a judgment. It is such an important book, fabulous and honest, that we needed to give it the schedule it deserves.”
“And that,” Pepper added for reasons that really need no explanation, “is the truth.”

Black's already slender chances of a January 2009 Presidential pardon would be reduced to all but nil if he had a book out trashing the US justice system and proclaiming his innocence.
As to mining the rich load of cliches for titles for second-installment memoirs, is it true that Barbara Amiel is considering "Diamonds: A Girl's Best Friend"?

"...and as we are dealing with an author in extraordinary circumstances.." LOL, what a delicate way to acknowledge the fact that the author is in stir!
Maybe they're delaying publication in the hope Lord Crosstalker will get out on appeal.

"It is such an important book, fabulous and honest ..."
Can a crook write an honest book?
BTW, been busy, so didn't have time to point out yesterday that His Lardship had been in his "extraordinary circumstances" for 78 DAYS out of the 78 MONTHS to which the judge sentenced him.
He has plenty of time to write a shelfful of books if he feels like it.
Karma be praised.

The book is going to be "fabulous" says the agent. I'm guessing that it's the 3rd definition here, and maybe a bit of the 4th:
From French fabuleux or Latin fabulosus, "celebrated in fable".
1. Extraordinary, especially in being very large.
2. Very good; wonderful.
3. Of the nature of a fable; unhistorical.
4. (obsolete) Mythical or legendary; incredible..

Wouldn't it be wild if Garth is found guilty and sentenced to Coleman Low....lol. If this were to happen, can you imagine the chats CB and Drabinsky might have? Oh to be a fly on the wall in either of their cells.
As for CB's latest book, Fintan brings up a great point - how can a convicted scammer and liar be expected to tell the truth in this " fiction " about his situation, etc. Just because CB is the author renders this tome about the " fight of my life " completely useless and irrelevant and I do not plan to read it.
