As long as the CBC is losing things…
Posted on June 17, 2008 by Douglas Bell
OK, so CBC lost Hockey Night in Canada’s theme music. Now, having set that happy precedent, perhaps the Ceeb brain trust might, for the sake of good taste and our collective sanity, consider losing this jacket (and maybe even the guy in it).

Yes, it would be great if one of the results of theme debacle was that CBC bigwigs were provoked to think wouldn't this be a suitable time to make a change re Cherry too. I find it very painful to watch him talk about himself between periods of the game. He shows selected video clips of himself predicting or opining on some issue and then -surprise- shows corroborating evidence that again -he was proved right! Also I find his "humorous" butchering of the pronunciation of Slavic and Scandinavian surnames really unpleasant. Another hockey announcer -possibly Andy Frost- said once part of his preparation before going on air is to spend 15 minutes researching how to get his mouth around any unfamiliar non-Anglo-Saxon names. It's just a matter of respect or courtesy.

Re: Don Cherry
I've always thought that having him on TV was a form of tokenism. Crass and tasteless Canadians DO exist.
